This is another shot from our walk along the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ on Sunday. Not much time to shoot yesterday.
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 227 8/16/08 Not another SmugMug mug!

After leaving Irishmurr and company yesterday afternoon, while walking to my car, this gentleman said hello and I smiled hello back. Then he said, " I like your personality, take my picture" I asked, "Do you really want me to take your picture?" he said, "Yes!" I did....simple as that! Warm smile and friendly words go a long way to make a day, don't they???
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 216 7/25/08 Mom, are you awake????

This is one of my Florida shots taken at the barn we were going to when we had stopped along the way and saw the zebra (just for the sake of some background!) I am just starting to sort through the 2000 or so pictures I took during the 4+ days we were away and it is a slow process...This shot is of a pony still nursing its mother...the light was quite low in the barn and shooting was very unsatisfying. I had thought to trash this shot, but then looking at it again, I think I like it. Sort of difficult angle with seeing the pony's tail-end at the fore. Mom was just resting lying down. After this, the pony did go around and nurse. I had never seen this before, especially with a horse lying down. The shots I have of the momma look like she is not even alive. I think with all that we have going on in the next few weeks it will really take me time to finish the gallery.

I am going to a Dental Hygiene conference in Chicago next Wed through Sunday. Who knows what I will pick up there..
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 228 - 8/17/08 Steve's Mom, my mother-in-law.

This is Steve's almost 91 year old mother. I posted a photo of her at least once before. She still lives on her own, is in good health (knock on wood) and enjoys dressing up every single day. She watches what she eats, does some leg exercises every morning and avoids stress. I guess that's the secret to her life success.

We took her out to see the new Woody Allen movie last night. She enjoyed it, but didn't love it. Steve sees her almost every day, but not on Thursdays when she plays Canasta! We should all age so gracefully.....
Only pp was a crop and a slight soft focus of the background to show her off.
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 223 8/10/08 Two posts in one day... Be sure to look here, too.

Meet Laura Shmania from Chapel Hill...my inspiration for our trip to North Carolina and side trip to east Tennessee to see George! This shot was taken by Steve ( my husband Steve, not Laura's husband Steve...) on the UNC Chapel Hill campus in front of the famed WELL.

I had been a little secretive about this trip on purpose...I love a surprise, after all!

I have had a desire to visit Chapel Hill from seeing Laura's fabulous photography on the Dailies from the UNC campus and Chapel Hill surroundings. We had the pleasure of her husband joining us and like our visit with George and Cathy in Tennessee it was really such a special few hours to visit and get to know eachother in person! Steve and I do love travel and enjoy meeting new people so this was just a great trip in every way. We also visited friends in Black Mountain and Fayetteville, so it was a very busy 5 days! Yes, 'InOurTime', I do get around, but it is with a great circle of friends....maybe we'll meet in Hoboken, NJ someday, too!!!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 205 - 7/10/08 How's this for "POP"???

This was another shot from yesterday when I was practicing to get 3D like images. Thanks to those of you who let me know that tree was called a "Contorted Filbert". Funny, I pass that tree every day that I walk in to work, but never really 'saw' it before. Long work day today and VERY early day tomorrow, both temp jobs, so I won't be on much tonight. I will try and catch up more on posts over the weekend. I miss having time to really look at everyone's pictures.
Here is a link to my new 3D/POP3D/, if you are interested.
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 202 - 7/6/08 The Joy of Photography - Part II

Well, I did say this morning that I was going to post a second one today. (Or at least I insinuated I would) This is slightly out of focus because the 40D doesn't have a remote so I tried the self-timer. It's more about he subject than the photo itself, anyway. If you want to see it better in its frame look HERE

THANK YOU LADY KATE FOR YOUR SUGGESTION!!! I did print and frame my little shot of the ice cream cones at my local 'Rita's'. I was really, really excited at how cute it looked framed and took it over to give to the the owner of the local Rita's we go to and she was, well...pleased. She didn't jump up and down and scream for joy, but she really liked it and then said she was going to take it to 'corporate'! She said that they would like something like that...then thanks to Lady Kate's coaching I said, 'Well, if they use it, of course, I would want the commercial rights...!" Oh, of course, she responded! Ha, Ha, Ha...who knows what will happen, but I was just excited to give it to her. I will definitely let you know if anything happens...

Oh, speaking of renumeration... I have officially sold 6 photos! I gave my card to a number of people at the 4th of July Party we went to and even though I allowed for the pics to be right click accessed and gave a CD of the shots to our hosts, one of the guests actually ordered 4 4x6 and 2 5x7's of their daughter!!!! Yay...I now have a $1.38 profit from SmugMug! I am so excited. we all have to start somewhere!

This was a great day! Thank you all!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 213 7/22/08 KITA the Akita

Back home and a walk in the park last night brought us to meeting 3 new pups. This little guy has an amazing face, don't you think? He sort of looks like a human in a dog mask to me! This is a 5 month old Akita who was walking with a couple and their daughter and their 4 month old Newfoundland ( Is that how you spell it?) They were great pups! We also met a boxer named Ruby. They all have little galleries in my Pets sections if you are interested. This has been an interesting project for me taking pictures of many of the dogs who walk in our local park.

Thanks to so many of you for your positive feedback on my Florida bird shots. I am humbled by your compliments and a bit embarrassed that I was complaining. I think I was just overwhelmed with so many to sort through and that it was much more difficult than I realized it would be to catch birds in flight and deal with the bright sunlight, too. You all make it look so easy!!! Thanks very much. I have tried to thank many of you individually, but with limited computer time these days, I had to resort to this method, too!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 211 7/18/08 Yes folks...I really am in Florida!!! LOL Straight out of the camera except fot the crop. No, this is not pp selective coloring of a horse, by the way!

Remember Belle, the little dachshund wearing pearls that I took pictures of in Central Park in NYC a few months ago? Well, she lives here in Florida now and I have kept in touch with her 'mom'. We got together last night and 'mom' took us for a ride to see some horses at a horse farm near here, but made sure we saw this zebra that lives near the horses. This is probably the best photo of the trip so far and certainly the most surprising! Not the usual Florida shot, is it???

Andrea...thanks for your tips.. Are the ears perked forward the same for zebras as for horses???
