March 19th, 2008 - Yesterday at work, one of the women who works at the front desk came running back to my treatment room and said someone came in apologizing for her 'melt down' with me in the chair the other day and brought me flowers!!! I had no idea what she was talking about. Since I have only been in this office for 6 months I don't remember people by name all the time yet, but when I saw her, I remembered her. She didn't really have a 'melt down', she has a sister with 3rd stage breast cancer who just had a mastectomy and got a MRSA infection in the wound. My patient had just returned the night before from Florida where she had been helping her single parent sister with her children. My patient had lost her mother to breast cancer and an aunt as well. She didn't have a melt down, she just needed someone to talk to who would listen. I was happy I could be that person for her at that moment no flowers were necessary, but I was very touched that she would want to bring them to me. As a Dental Hygienist it is a special part of what I do to have the opportunity to build relationships with my patients. This was a very touching response from her to bring me a gift like that. I knew I would want to take pictures of the flowers to remember this thank you gift.
These are the beautiful flowers she brought me..a kind of Lily, right? Anyway, I kept them at work to enjoy them and brought them home today. When I got into the car I put them on the floor of the passenger side. I realized with the soft light of a cloudy, rainy day and my 50mm 1.4 lens on my RebelXT I had my potd!!! I sat in my car taking pictures for a few minutes, then drove to the supermarket. The light was brighter there when I parked so I sat in the car and took a few more. This was from my first shots near work and is straight from the memory card. I didn't crop, sharpen or anything!!! What do you think??? I actually am pretty proud of this shot.
Here is a link to all the Lily shots I took today.
