Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 246 9/7/08 If you know Soccer, you know Boca Juniors! This is the side wall of a little shop in the neighborhood of the Boca Junior Soccer Stadium. This was off the beaten track of the main touristy La Boca streets (ie, El Caminito). We wandered back streets and just had a fascinating time with all the fantastic colors and painting on walls throughout the area especially in contrast to the old crumbling facades of the buildings in that area...Just great to see. We had never wandered this far off the mainstreet before. We happened upon a wonderful neighborhood cafe for lunch with no tourists...and that was a special experience in itself...

All in all this has been a great trip and I am feeling a bit low to leave today, as is Steve. We really enjoy this city and its people. Somehow we meet people very easily, enjoy the food, the challenge of the Spanish and just the vitality of the city life... We know we will be back next year, but returning home is always an adjustment!!! I hope by the end of the week to be back on the dailies commenting and catching up with all your wonderful photography..with work this week and unpacking ( ugh, I hate to unpack!!! ) it will be a busy week...

Thank you all who have indulged me in my vacation photos and helped me enjoy this trip all the more as I looked at familiar sites with new eyes, your eyes, to show you our world here in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It really added to know I was looking for photos to share with all of you...you are all very special to me and how nice I could bring you with me on vacation!!!

Besos grandes a todos!!!! ( Big kisses to all of you)Everyone in Argentina kisses in greeting when they come and when they go...so I send kisses to you...
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 245 9/6/08 La Boca - A Fascinating and colorful port area of Buenos Aires. This is just one of the many painted storefront and walls of the area called "La Boca"...

Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 244 9/5/08 Pooch waiting for his owner!
(Lady Kate- this one is for YOU!!! ha ha...saw your post for me! Thanks!)

This is a fairly common sight in Buenos Aires. They are truly dog loving people and the dogs are mostly extremely well trained. It is common to see a dog, not tied to anything, waiting outside a store looking in for it owner while the owner conducts business inside. This was taken in the little town of San Isidro, near the coast of the Rio Plata...lovely place.

Remember the picture I posted of the dog walkers who walk 8-15 or so dogs around town? It was funny, the other day I mentioned to someone how fascinated I am by the groups of dogs walked around on leashes..the person replied that is why there are many strange mixes of dogs around BsAs, too...they have all kinds of fun when they are together!!!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 243 9/4/08 A common site on every street, at every turn. I just love the warm glow at night from corner fruit and vegetable stands, restaurants with big windows filled with people and outdoor cafe's. The weather has changed and it is quite cold now...we will have highs in the 50's the next few days until we leave..good that it is sunny and clear though. This was taken at about 7 pm yesterday as we walked to a friend's apartment for dinner and conversation...
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 242 - 9/3/08 This is the widest street in the world, I believe, Avenida 9 de Julio. Named for the Argentine Independence Day. This is 'El Obelisco', a favorite icon of Buenos Aires by the Argentines. Of course, if you look, there is the 'McDonald Golden Arches' in the background..a popular American icon, whether we like it or not!

Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 241 9/2/08 Nuestra amiga Lucia!

We have known this little girl since before she was born...4 years ago. We had a great afternoon with her and her family and other friends of ours in a distant suburb of Buenos Aires. I had a great opportunity to take lots of shots of the children, children with parents and grandparents and our group together. Actually the group shot with me and Steve that you will eventually be able to see was set up by me, but a young woman near us was kind enough to take the pictures. I hadn't brought my tripod with me...( Shame I forgot that I still had that darned new polarizing filter on and couldn't figure out why I was having to boost the ISO so much..I always forget something!!!)

We are really enjoying ourselves as many of you have commented on...I do apologize that I am not taking any time to comment. I just know if I get started, it will be hard to stop so I will have to wait until I get home. I will say that I have glanced at some of the pics each day and you all are the best..so creative and skilled. Your photography has been great inspiration to me and motivation to do better. Thanks for your continued comments and time to look at my photos even though I am not giving back! Besos!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 240 9/1/08 Wow..already September 1st! Happy Labor Day everyone!

This shot was taken on a little train from San Isidro, Argentina back to Buenos Aires. Toward the end of the trip this man came into our car with this harp and played a few songs...It was really lovely. You can see by the smiles that his music was enjoyed. After the songs were finished a woman he was with carried the harp while he walked ahead with a cap in hand for some 'donations'!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > I hope it's okay I uploaded this here. We went to a local dance club (Milonga) and saw regular people dancing Tango... Wonderful night..At the end of the evening ( for us a 1am they stay until 4am) There was a presentation of some champions. This was a taste of their tango. I hope you can see this. Let me know. If it doesn't work I will delete it from the Gallery. Thanks!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 239 8/31/08 Now this is a mate drinker drinking Mate!!!

Hah, John..just saw your message, you are quick! They were drinking mate next to him!

Thank you all for your concern about me and the riot police! Yes, Steve was ready to grab me as that guy turned toward me, but I only took the one pic and just walked quickly away without looking back... No big problems with the protest, I don't think, but we did hear some warning shots fired when we were a block or two away from this Plaza de Mayo area. This area is still the site where many women walk in protest EVERY Thursday since the 70's when under the Federal Dictatorship there were 30,000 of 'liberals' who were tortured, murdered or just disappeared...A national disgrace to this day.

We are having a great time and again, I thank you all so much for your comments and time in following my trip. I will do what I can to catch up with all of you and view your galleries when I am settled in back home...Thank you, thank you for your time to look and comment and your care about our well being!!!! Big hugs!!!
